Volunteer Expectations

Volunteers serve inside the hospitals and in outpatient clinics throughout the area. They provide non-clinical support to our staff, freeing up our staff to spend more time with our patients. Volunteering is a great way to make new friends and make a difference all at once!

Volunteers commit to 4 hour shift each week (Dell Children's Volunteers are required to serve 6 hours a week). Shifts are available 7 days each week. Due to the time and effort we put into screening, onboarding, and training new volunteers, we require a minimum 2 semester commitment.

Additionally, student volunteers are only permitted to miss 3 shifts per semester. If you are not able to commit to this level of attendance, please do not apply. Placement will be prioritized to volunteers who have availability during business hours (Monday through Friday, 7am- 4pm)

Volunteer Requirements

Due to the nature of our work there are a number of requirements that all Ascension Seton Volunteers must meet. Please review the Immunization requirements and General requirements below before submitting your application.

Immunization Requirements

All Ascension Volunteers will be required to complete our Occupational Health form to determine immunization requirements have been met. Requirements are:

• MMR - Measles, Mumps, Rubella\
• Varicella - Chicken Pox (either history of disease or proof of vaccination)
• TB (Tuberculosis) test within 30 days prior of application submission (TB test must be a QFT Gold or Tspot)
• TDap (within the last 10 years)
• Flu shot is required during the December and April application periods. If you are applying during the summer, flu shots are not required
• Urine Drug Screen (to be performed at our Associate Health Clinic)

Upon completion of this application, you will be sent a confirmation email. Once your application is received, should you be offered a place in the program, you will be emailed instructions to complete your Occupational Health From. You will need to visit your primary care physician or another clinic to complete this form.

Student Volunteers

• Minimum 18 years of age
• Complete Volunteer Application
• Ascension associates are not eligible to volunteer
• Meet volunteer immunization requirements (see above)
• Consent to Criminal Background Check
• Commit to 4 hours a week (Dell Children's requires 6 hours of service per week which may be split in two shifts)
• Ability to function independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to complete light physical activity including but not limited to standing for long periods of time, pushing and pulling small amounts of weight.
• Complete orientation and training; details will be forwarded to accepted applicants
